THE CHALLENGE

Teams of between 4 and 6 members will compete for the Challenge trophy by undertaking a series of base challenges whilst following a designated route of about 6 miles. They will stop at activity bases along the way.

The hike takes in the beautiful countryside of Teignbridge.

Teams are all supplied with an event map and a route card and all start from different locations across the route.

Scouts and Guides need basic map and compass skills to give them the best chance of winning.

Tip: There are no points for getting around the route only for taking part in the bases.

Bases are where teams earn points.

The bases are a mixture of tasks that can be physical, logical or skill.

They are normally based on traditional Scout and Guide skills but we do throw some more modern task in there too.

They change each year to keep you on your toes!!

Team members must be ready at 8.15am for departure, either to walk to their start point or waiting for a mini bus, wearing their neckerchief, Hurdlestone Challenge consent and health form, and carrying their kit (including their lunch and drink). Failure to be ready may result in a last-minute departure. Teams will be taken to their start point and will not be able to leave that point until 9.30am.

The Challenge ends at 5:30pm. Teams arriving before this time can participate in the base activity. Returning to the camp site may involve walking or walking to a bus stop, supervised by adults or Service Crew members. Vehicles carrying participants will display a Hurdlestone Challenge sign. Participants are asked to report as a team upon arrival.
